Chiropractic and Wellness Nutrition

Wellness is about health and homeostasis. Our primary aim is to move people towards optimal cell function, and therefore towards creating balance within themselves.

One of the fundamental requirements for optimal health are sufficient and pure nutrients.

Our genes are actually programmed to be healthy, which means it is toxins and nutrient deficiency that leads to sickness.

Most illnesses today are generally due to environmental factors, NOT genetic. Your diet is the foundation of your health and what we put into our bodies affects our mind, body and spirit.

 

There are three components to nutrition, and each one has a profound influence on the health of the cells in our body. They are:

Ingestion: what substances enter the digestive tract

Digestion and absorption: what substances are broken down and delivered to cells and

Utilisation: how substances are absorbed, used and stored and eliminated by cells

Nutrition, like all things related to living organisms, is a holistic issue. One cannot have part of the jigsaw and hope to complete the whole picture. Similarly, chiropractors cannot just simply treat symptoms, make adjustments and leave it there. There are many added factors that contribute to pain. Ignoring any one would be unscientific and clinically unsound. An example would be to have a patient who eats an inflammatory diet and is deficient in omega 3 essential fatty acids. They come for an adjustment, get an inflammatory reaction, feel worse and have an unsatisfactory result. The role of your chiropractor is to advise you how you can help your condition by all means. If your chiropractor doesn’t advise you how to change your diet, they wouldn’t be doing their job properly.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) classify the definition of health as follows: 'Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.'

Many environmental factors, as well as poor nutritional practices pull us away from homestasis or balance, which can result in chronic inflammatory conditions.

Good Nutrition is one of the key building blocks along with other energy/chemical components, such as sunlight, that provide for healthy nerve, cell, tissue repair, growth and development. The use of Applied Kinesiology gives us the opportunity to observe how this balance may be achieved, through employing three important elements of health in your lifestyle:

Healthy Eating

 

 

Here is our 10 point healthy eating plan which can be supported through our Wellness Nutrition Programme. You can pick this programme up from our on site Nutrition Advisor, or ask our reception team for a Wellness Nutrition Evaluation assessment where you can receive a 30 minute consultation and take away a free booklet with lots of tips on how to eat a healthy, balanced diet.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, particularly cruciferous veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and curly kale.
  • Eat complex carbohydrates: whole grains like brown rice, oats and wholemeal bread.
  • Eat seasonal, fresh local produce and buy organic products where possible; particularly meats, dairy and root veggies.
  • Eat oily foods including fish (sardine, mackerel) nuts, seeds and oils.
  • Drink plenty of fluids and reduce your caffeine intake by drinking herbal and green teas.
  • Avoid take-aways and refined sugar on its own, or in savoury and sweet snacks.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners, preservatives, flavour enhancers and additives, such as monosodium glutamate (MSG).
  • Reduce your intake of saturated fats from dairy products; ideally no more than 5-6g per portion.
  • Eat plenty of mixed beans such as chick peas and lentils.
  • Reduce alcohol consumption. Drink alcohol in moderation.
